FAQs: Home Renovation Savings Program
What is the Home Renovation Savings™ Program?
On January 7, 2025, the Government of Ontario announced 14 new and expanded energy efficiency programs, including the Home Renovation Savings™ Program. Enbridge Gas and Save on Energy, with endorsement from the Ontario government, have partnered to launch this new program to help Ontarians improve their home efficiency and comfort. Whether you heat your home with natural gas or electricity, this new program will offer rebates for energy-efficient upgrades like heat pumps, smart thermostats, and more.
How much is the rebate available on a cold climate air sourced heat pump?
It depends on what the primary source of heat is for your home. If you are an Enbridge customer, you can receive up to $2,000 in rebates OR if your primary heat source is electric heat, then you can receive up to $7,500 in rebates. Both rebates are based on the size of the cold climate heat pump installed and require the installing contractor to complete a size and selection analysis of your home to ensure a proper fit of any new equipment. Please note these rebates only apply to new installs only and replacement of existing heat pumps will not qualify.
How much will it cost to install a cold climate air sourced heat pump in my home?
This depends on many factors including the size of your home, number of windows, the current size of ductwork in your home, among other factors. On average, a cold climate heat pump installation can cost anywhere from $7,000 to $10,000 again depending on the size required and other factors mentioned above. Call us and we will send a MacKay Heating & Cooling Home Comfort Advisor to your home to determine the right size of unit for your home and budget!
Are there any technical requirements to receive this rebate?
The cold climate air source heat pump system must be capable of distributing hot air in the winter and cold air in the summer throughout the entire conditioned space in your home and meet Canada’s Energy Efficiency Regulations. A MacKay Heating & Cooling Home Comfort Advisor will be able to recommend the right sized equipment to comfortably heat and cool your home.
What are the eligible products that will qualify for this cold climate air source heat pump rebate?
A MacKay Heating & Cooling Home Comfort Advisor will make sure your heat pump is listed as eligible and compatible with the list of qualified products listed by the Natural Resources Canada guidelines as required by the program.
What homes are eligible to participate in this new cold climate air source heat pump rebate program?
All primary and non-primary residences qualify; owner must be the applicant. Detached, semi-detached, row, and mobile homes on a permanent foundation are eligible.
Is a Home Energy Audit required like the previous rebate program in 2023-2024?
Unlike previous heat pump rebate programs NO HOME ENERGY ASSESSMENT IS REQUIRED! A cold climate air source heat pump is considered a single upgrade under the program rules and can be completed without a Home Energy Assessment. This is great news which will save Ontarians time and money and expediate the time it takes to receive the rebate!
Will MacKay Heating & Cooling help me complete the application documents in order to get my rebate?

MacKay Heating & Cooling is a trusted provider of leading technology and energy-efficient heat pumps, furnaces, mini-split systems, and other HVAC equipment from world-class manufacturers such as Trane, Goodman, York, Mitsubishi, among others. How long will it take to receive my rebate?
According to Enbridge and Save on Energy, rebates will be processed and cheques will be mailed out 30-60 days from the date the application is received.
Does MacKay Heating & Cooling offer financing to finance the portion of the install not covered by this rebate program or bridge finance the whole install?
Yes! MacKay Heating & Cooling has partnered with Financeit who offers best in class consumer financing programs with promotions such as 0% interest and no payments for 3 months. This can be a great way to bridge finance your heating and cooling upgrade while you wait for the rebate to arrive.
