Air Cleaners, Filters and Humidifiers
Why is Indoor Air Quality So Important?
Clean air is essential for good health, and this is especially true when it comes to indoor air.
As Canadians, we spend close to 90% of our time inside; at home, at work and in recreational environments. Most people, however, are unaware of the effects that poor indoor air quality can have on their health.
All of us have the ability to control the quality of our own indoor air.
That’s why it’s important to be proactive in controlling the quality of the air you breathe indoors. Pollutants in your air can contribute to allergies and are a frequent cause of sickness, especially in children.
There are 6 factors affecting the indoor air quality in your home, they are:
Temperature is a measure of the relative warmth or coolness of the air, expressed in degrees Celsius. If the air in your home is too cold, occupants may become uncomfortable, restless and easily distracted. If the air is too warm, occupants may become uncomfortable, sweat more and tire quickly.
Humidity is a measure of moisture content in the air. You may feel uncomfortable if the air in your home is too dry or too humid. In addition, excessive humidity contributes to the growth of mold and other microbes that can affect your health.
Carbon monoxide is a colorless, odorless, gas that is highly toxic to humans even at low concentrations. If your home has unacceptable levels you should take corrective action immediately.
Indoor particles are very small bits of liquid and solid contaminants that become suspended in the air. Most are not visible to the naked eye. A high reading may mean that your home has high levels of dust, mold or plant spores, pollen, dust mite fragments, pet dander, or bacteria.
Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) are a large class of organic (carbon-based) chemicals that are present in almost all buildings. These chemicals are given off by a wide range of common household products, including personal care and cleaning products, plastics, paints and solvents, and can circulate freely throughout the home. A high TVOC reading indicates that the total load of volatile organic compounds in your home is higher than it should be. The exact risk varies considerably from person to person and from one VOC to the next.

The crew that installed my furnace was knowledgeable, experienced and efficient. What is more, they were polite, and very customer oriented. They treated us and our home with respect and care. Very simply, the best thing of all was that Mackay heating and everyone I talked to and dealt with did what they said they were going to do and exceeded all expectations. Not all small business people do that. In fact not all big business people do that. In particular, my wide enjoyed Marty’s lecture on how to program the thermostat. Finally, the installation and the piping is almost a work of art. As you know, the other system was a piped up nightmare and caused me continuous mental pain when I just looked at it. I’m very pleased!Ron Gropp

On Saturday evening my furnace wouldn’t respond to a demand for heat so I called for a service person. Jason called back promptly and arrived at the house as soon as possible after finishing a couple of calls. He quickly determined that my thermostat was faulty and he replaced it. I want to commend your company and especially Jason for excellent and very friendly service. Having the VIP service contract is a great comfort and something I would never want to be without. P. S. Give Jason a raise or at least a hugRoss Williams
